Pseudocoenia was named by d'Orbigny (1850) [Sepkoski's age data: J Oxfo-m K Apti Sepkoski's reference number: 821,823]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Stylinidae by Roniewicz (1976); to Cyathophoridae by Turnsek (1997); to Scleractinia by Sepkoski (2002); and to Pseudocoeniinae by Pandey and Fürsich (2003).
