Protoskenidioides was named by Williams (1974). It is not extant. Its type is Protoskenidioides revelata.
It was assigned to Orthida by Sepkoski (2002); to Protorthida by Zhan and Jin (2005); and to Skenidiidae by Williams et al. (2000), Benedetto (2003) and Hansen and Holmer (2011).
