Hesperosaurus was named by Carpenter et al. (2001). It is not extant.
It was synonymized subjectively with Stegosaurus by Maidment et al. (2008) and Mateus et al. (2009).
It was assigned to Stegosauria by Chure et al. (2006); and to Stegosauridae by Carpenter et al. (2001), Galton and Upchurch (2004), Maidment et al. (2006), Galton (2007), Ulansky (2014) and Maidment et al. (2018).
It was synonymized subjectively with Stegosaurus by Maidment et al. (2008) and Mateus et al. (2009).
It was assigned to Stegosauria by Chure et al. (2006); and to Stegosauridae by Carpenter et al. (2001), Galton and Upchurch (2004), Maidment et al. (2006), Galton (2007), Ulansky (2014) and Maidment et al. (2018).
