Recticostastraea was named by Stanley, jr and Whalen (1989) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr u]. It is not extant. Its type is Recticostastraea wallowaensis.

It was assigned to Thamnasteriidae by Stanley and jr and Whalen (1989); and to Scleractinia by Sepkoski (2002).
