Sakalavastraea was named by Alloiteau (1958) [Sepkoski's age data: J Call-l J Oxfo Sepkoski's reference number: 658,826]. It is not extant. Its type is Sakalavastraea collignoni.

It was assigned to Faviidae by Beauvais (1966); and to Scleractinia by Sepkoski (2002).
