Pipimorpha was named by Ford and Cannatella (1993). It is extant. Its type is Pipa.

It was assigned to Pipoidea by Henrici (1998), Trueb (1999), Trueb et al. (2005) and Trueb and Báez (2006); and to Xenoanura by Baez et al. (2009) and Baez (2013).
