Ophileta nerine was named by Billings (1865). It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Lecanospira nereine by Wagner (1999); it was recombined as Lecanospira nerine by Ulrich et al. (1931), Spelman (1966), Rohr et al. (2000), Rohr et al. (2003) and Wagner (2023).
