Stereocaenia was named by Alloiteau (1952) [Sepkoski's age data: J Bajo K Nc Sepkoski's reference number: 847]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Scleractinia by Sepkoski (2002); and to Thamnasteriidae by Kiessling (2004).
