Stylophyllum was named by Reuss (1854) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Nori Tr Rhae]. It is not extant. Its type is Stylophyllum polyacanthum.

It was assigned to Stylophyllidae by Stanley (1986) and Roniewicz and Michalík (1998); and to Scleractinia by Sepkoski (2002).
