Syzygophyllia was named by Reuss (1860) [Sepkoski's age data: T Ol-u T Plio-u Sepkoski's reference number: 1110]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Mussidae by Roniewicz and Stolarski (1991); and to Scleractinia by Sepkoski (2002).
