Trictenotomides was named by Blanchard (1845). It is extant.

It was synonymized subjectively with Pythidae by Crowson (1981); it was corrected as Trictenotomidae by Lawrence and Newton (1995) and Cai et al. (2022).

It was assigned to Tenebrionoidea by Lawrence and Newton (1995) and Cai et al. (2022).
