Truncoconus was named by Turnsek and Mihajlovic (1981) [Sepkoski's age data: K Sepkoski's reference number: 658]. It is not extant. Its type is Truncoconus inclinatus.

It was assigned to Haplaraeinae by Baron-szabo (2002); and to Scleractinia by Sepkoski (2002).
