Bija was named by Vologdin (1932) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm l]. It is not extant. Its type is Bija sibirica.

It was assigned to Rhodophyceae by Andrews (1970); to Problematica by Bengtson (1992); to Solenoporaceae by Scrutton (1997); to Anthozoa by Sepkoski (2002); and to Renalcidae by Debrenne et al. (2015).
