Megaptera miocaena

Taxonomy
Megaptera miocaena was named by Kellogg (1922). Its type specimen is USNM 10300, a skull, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Lompoc Quarry, which is in a Tortonian basinal (siliciclastic) diatomite in the Monterey Formation of California.

It was considered an invalid subgroup of Megaptera by Marx and Fordyce (2015); it was considered an invalid subgroup of Balaenopteridae by Tsai and Boessenecker (2017).
