Taxonomy
Squalodon whitmorei was named by Dooley (2005). Its type specimen is USNM 183023, a partial skull, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Mason Mill Pond, Zone 3b, which is in a Burdigalian marine sandstone in the Calvert Formation of Virginia.
