Taxonomy
Calamophyllia fenestrata was named by Reuss (1854). It is the type species of Retiophyllia.

It was recombined as Thecosmilia fenestrata by Frech (1890) and Smith (1927); it was recombined as Archaeophyllia fenestrata by Beauvais (1972); it was recombined as Retiophyllia fenestrata by Cuif (1967) and Kiessling (2008).
