Bothrideridae was named by Erichson (1845). It is extant. Its type is Bothrideres.

It was assigned to Cucujoidea by Lawrence and Newton (1995) and Bouchard et al. (2011); and to Coccinelloidea by Robertson et al. (2015) and Cai et al. (2022).
