Clisospiracea was named by Miller (1889) [nom. transl. Knight, Batten & Yochelson 1960 (ref #10229).]. Its type is Clisospiridae.

It was corrected as Clisospiroidea by Golikov and Starobogatov (1975), Bouchet et al. (2005) and Wagner (2017).

It was assigned to Archaeogastropoda by Knight et al. (1960); to Macluritida by Golikov and Starobogatov (1975); to Gastropoda by Bouchet et al. (2005); and to Mimospirida by Wagner (2017).
