Floyda was named by Webster (1905) [Sepkoski's age data: D Give-u D Fras-u Sepkoski's reference number: 362]. It is not extant. Its type is Floyda concentrica.

It was corrected as Floydia by Fenton and Fenton (1924).

It was assigned to Gastropoda by Fenton and Fenton (1924); to Palaeotrochidae by Knight et al. (1960) and Day (1987); and to Archaeogastropoda by Sepkoski (2002).
