Taxonomy

Laccophilus was named by Leach (1817). It is extant.

It was assigned to Hydrocanthares by Dejean (1821); to Colymbetini by LeConte (1861); to Dytiscidae by Scudder (1900); to Laccophilinae by Zhang (1989); and to Laccophilini by Nilsson (2001) and Bouchard et al. (2011).

Synonyms

Palaeogyrinus was named by von Schlechtendal (1894). It is the type genus of Palaeogyrinidae.

It was synonymized subjectively with Laccophilus by Nilsson (2001).

It was assigned to Palaeogyrinidae by von Schlechtendal (1894); to Dytiscidae by Carpenter (1992); and to Palaeogyrininae by Bouchard et al. (2011).
