It was synonymized subjectively with Desmostylus by Mitchell and Repenning (1963) and Domning (1996); it was misspelled as Kronotherium by Shikama (1966), Inuzuka et al. (1995), McKenna and Bell (1997), Inuzuka (2000), Barnes and Goedert (2001), Domning (2008), Berta (2017) and Domning (2018).
It was assigned to Desmostylia by Domning (2008); to Desmostylia by Berta (2017); and to Desmostylidae by Pronina (1957), Shikama (1966), Inuzuka et al. (1995), McKenna and Bell (1997), Inuzuka (2000), Barnes and Goedert (2001) and Domning (2018).
