Taxonomy
Scymnus was named by Kugelann (1794). It is extant. It is the type genus of Scymniens, Scymnini.

It was synonymized subjectively with Dalatias by Jordan (1907).

It was assigned to Scymnorhinidae by Jordan (1963); to Coccinellinae by Zhang (1989); and to Scymnini by Barševskis and Lazdāns (2010) and Bouchard et al. (2011).
