Myzinum was named by Latreille (1803). It is extant. It is the type genus of Myzininae.

It was assigned to Mutillariae by Latreille (1803); to Scoliidae by Piton (1940); to Myzininae by Pilgrim et al. (2008) and Kimsey (2009); and to Tiphiidae by Werner (1969), Carpenter (1992) and Nel et al. (2013).
