Taxonomy
Oecophylla was named by Smith (1860). It is extant. It is the type genus of Oecophyllini.
It was assigned to Solenopsidini by Zhang (1989); to Formicidae by Carpenter (1992); to Formicinae by Dlussky et al. (2008) and Dlussky and Perfilieva (2014); and to Oecophyllini by Wheeler (1915), Bolton (2003), Bolton (2012) and Ward et al. (2016).
It was assigned to Solenopsidini by Zhang (1989); to Formicidae by Carpenter (1992); to Formicinae by Dlussky et al. (2008) and Dlussky and Perfilieva (2014); and to Oecophyllini by Wheeler (1915), Bolton (2003), Bolton (2012) and Ward et al. (2016).
