Taxonomy
Piscophoca pacifica was named by Muizon (1981). Its type specimen is SAS 564 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Sud-Sacaco West (SAS) horizon, which is in a Messinian foreshore siltstone in the Pisco Formation of Peru. It is the type species of Pisciphoca.
