Odobenus mandanoensis

Taxonomy
Odobenus mandanoensis was named by Tomida (1989) [National Science Museum (Japan)]. Its type specimen is NSM-PV 18911, a mandible, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Mandano, which is in a Pleistocene marginal marine sandstone in the Mandano Formation of Japan.

recent Pacific subspecies Odobenus rosmarus divergens; mandibular symphysis robust
and vertically thick; dentary bone thickens laterally above the level of the mental
foramen posterior to C1 ;· diastema between C1 and P2 wide; teeth being implanted
obliquely, leaning anteriorly.
