Taxonomy
Prismatoolithus matellensis was named by Vianey-Liaud and Crochet (1994). It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type specimen is PHM-20, an egg (radial thin-section of eggshell), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Pioch Herbaut (PHM), which is in a Maastrichtian terrestrial horizon in France.

M. Vianey-Liaud and J.-Y. Crochet 1994Relatively thick Prismatoolithus (1.06 mm to 1.22 mm), thicker than Orodromeus makelai, probably with smooth outer surface; mammillary layer about 10% of the eggshell thickness; pore canal diameters varying about 25μm to 70μm; size and shape of the egg unknown.
