Raphistoma junius was named by Whidborne (1892). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Pilton Formation Gastropods, which is in a Famennian marine sandstone/shale in the Pilton Formation of the United Kingdom.
It was recombined as Rhaphistoma junius by Whidborne (1896); it was recombined as Angyomphalus (Angyomphalus) junius by Amler and Heidelberger (2003); it was recombined as Angyomphalus junius by Wagner (2023).
