Taxonomy
Carinaropsis explanata was named by Ulrich and Scofield (1897) [Carinaropsis explanata Ulrich in Ulrich & Scofield 1897]. It is not extant. Its type locality is River Quarries, Covington, which is in a Shermanian deep subtidal shelf limestone/shale in the Clays Ferry Formation of Kentucky.
