Taxonomy
Bellerophon (Coelocyclus) rarissimus was named by Perner (1903) [Bellerophon (Coelocyclus) rarissimus Barrande in Perner 1903]. It is not a trace fossil. It is the type species of Bellerophon (Coelocyclus).

It was recombined as Coelocyclus rarissimus by Knight (1941), Knight et al. (1960), Horný (1963), Jhaveri (1969) and Wagner (2023).
