Taxonomy
Cyrtolites mitella was named by Hall (1859). It is not extant. It is the type species of Cyrtolites (Cyrtonella).

It was recombined as Cyrtolites (Cyrtonella) mitella by Hall (1879); it was recombined as Cyrtonella mitella by Prosser and Kindle (1913), Rollins (1966), Rollins et al. (1971) and Wagner (2023).
