Diagnosis
ReferenceDiagnosis
J. B. Knight 1941 (Aulopea nelsoni)Moderately large, irregularly subglobular, narrowly phaneromphalous gastropods with sides of whorls flattened and the outer lip extending broadly forward between an upper and lower notchlike sinus; whorl profile broadly and roundly shouldered above, flattened or slightly concave on the sides; sutures deep; nucleus unknown; base rather narrow, somewhat extended, narrowly phaneromphalous; columellar lip somewhat irregular, reflexed about the umbilicus; parietal contact rather narrow, inductura thin; outer lip with a shallow sinus on the crest of the shoulder close to the upper suture, a broad forward extension on the sides and a second sinus on the narrow base, the latter sinus being rather deep and notchlike; ornamentation rather coarse lines of growth only; shell thin, its structure unknown. The holotype measures 26.5 mm. in height, 29.5 mm. in width, and has a pleural angle of about 121 degrees.
