Hessonia germana was named by Heidelberger (2001). Its type specimen is HLfB 5416/1/2, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Gastropods of the Lahn Basin Limestones: Hermannstein, which is in a Givetian marine limestone/reef rocks in Germany.
