Taxonomy
Plumulites was named by Barrande (1872) [Sepkoski's age data: O Trem-u C Tour Sepkoski's reference number: 784]. It is not extant. It was considered paraphyletic by Parry et al. (2019).

It was assigned to Lepidocoleomorpha by Sepkoski (2002); to Plumulitidae by Vinther et al. (2008); and to Machaeridia by Parry et al. (2019).
