Murchisonia perangulata was named by Hall (1847). It is a 3D body fossil. It was considered paraphyletic by Ulrich and Scofield (1897).
It was recombined as Loxoplocus (Lophospira) perangulata by Knight and Bridge (1944), Bretsky (1970) and Rohr (1980); it was recombined as Lophospira perangulata by Ulrich and Scofield (1897), Raymond (1908), Grabau and Shimer (1909), Twenhofel (1938), Wilson (1951), Vostokova (1962), Vostokova (1964), Liberty (1969), Steele and Sinclair (1971), Rohr and Blodgett (1985), Tofel and Bretsky (1987), Wagner (1995), Rohr (1996), Wagner (1999), Rohr et al. Rohr 1996 | Moderate size (2.5 cm high), apical angle 45- 50 degrees, narrowly phaneromphalous, with three whorl angulations, a well-developed carina bearing the selenizone on upper shoulder, a weaker angulation at the lower-outer edge and a circumumbilical angulation. Suture flush in early whorls and becoming incised in later whorls; whorl surface concave above and below upper angulation; thread above and below convex selenizone; growth lines prosocyrt, curving back into selenizone. |
