Maclurea acuminata was named by Billings (1865). It is not a trace fossil.
It was recombined as Maclurites acuminata by Banks and Johnson (1957); it was recombined as Maclurites acuminatus by Yü (1961), Rohr (1980) and Rohr and Measures (2001); it was recombined as Palliseria acuminata by Wagner (2023).
