Taxonomy
Platyceras (Orthonychia) bowsheri was named by Yochelson (1956). Its type specimen is USNM 119211, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is USNM706b, Hess Canyon, Glass Mtns., which is in a Wordian offshore shelf packstone/wackestone in the Word Formation of Texas.
It was recombined as Orthonychia bowsheri by Bandel and Frýda (1999) and Wagner (2023).
