Phragmolites compressus was named by Conrad (1838). It is not extant. It is the type species of Phragmolites.
It was recombined as Cyrtolites compressus by Hall (1847), Hall (1861), Chamberlin (1883) and Lesley (1889); it was recombined as Conradella compressus by Ulrich and Scofield (1897).
