Pleurotomaria benediana was named by de Koninck (1883) [Pleurotomaria Benediana].

It was recombined as Ptychomphalus benedianus by de Koninck (1883) and Amler and Heidelberger (2003); it was recombined as Rhineoderma benediana by Batten (1966) and Wagner (2023).
