Taxonomy
Circotheca was named by Syssoiev (1958) [Sepkoski's age data: V N-Da-l S Ludl Sepkoski's reference number: 288,885,1030]. Its type is Hyolithes stylus.

It was assigned to Orthothecidae by Fisher (1962); to Circothecidae by Rozanov et al. (1969), Azmi and Pancholi (1983); to Hyolitha by Malinky (1990); and to Circothecida by Sepkoski (2002).
