Crossbitheca was named by Missarzhevsky (1974) [Sepkoski's age data: V N-Da Cm Tomm-l Sepkoski's reference number: 1006]. Its type is Crossbitheca arcuaria.

It was assigned to Circothecidae by Missarzhevsky (1974); and to Circothecida by Sepkoski (2002).
