Lophotheca was named by Qian (1978) [Sepkoski's age data: V N-Da-u Cm Tomm Sepkoski's reference number: 271,1030]. It is not extant. Its type is Lophotheca costellata.

It was assigned to Orthothecida by Sepkoski (2002).
