Taxonomy
Harpa americana was named by Pilsbry (1922) [TYPE LOCALITY: Dominican Republic, unknown age. TYPE REPOSITORY: ANSP, Philadelphia.]. It is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is Quebrada Camarones [Esmeraldas Fm], which is in a Pliocene marine sandstone/sandstone in the Esmeraldas Formation of Ecuador.
