Taxonomy
Pleurotomaria obtusispira was named by Shumard (1859). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Four miles west of Sierra Hueco, which is in an Asselian/Artinskian carbonate limestone in Texas.

It was recombined as Omphalotrochus obtusispira by Girty (1937), Chronic (1953), Yochelson (1956) and Kues (1995).
