Taxonomy
Hexaprotodon harvardi was named by Coryndon (1977). Its type specimen is NMK 57-67K, a partial skull, and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Archaeopotamus harvardi by Boisserie (2005) and Weston and Boisserie (2010).
