Auroralestes was named by Holroyd et al. (2004) [replacement name for Eolestes Bown and Schankler 1982]. It is not extant. Its type is Leipsanolestes simpsoni.
It was assigned to Erinaceidae by Holroyd et al. (2004); and to Erinaceoidea by Gunnell et al. (2008).
