Bellerophon argo was named by Billings (1860). It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Oxydiscus argo by Ulrich and Scofield (1897); it was recombined as Tropidodiscus argo by Wilson (1951); it was recombined as Joleaudella argo by Wagner (2023).
