Taxonomy
Bellerophon elongatus was named by Portlock (1843). It is not extant. Its type locality is Tyrone, which is in a Soudleyan/Longvillian offshore sandstone in the Bardahessiagh Formation of the United Kingdom.
It was recombined as Sinuites elongatus by Reed (1906), Reed (1921) and Horný (1997); it was recombined as Strangulites elongatus by Wagner (2023).
