Taxonomy
Bellerophon macer was named by Billings (1865). It is not a trace fossil. It is the type species of Tropidodiscus (Umbilicatus).
It was recombined as Oxydiscus macer by Ulrich and Scofield (1897); it was recombined as Tropidodiscus macer by Yochelson and Copeland (1974); it was recombined as Tropidodiscus (Umbilicatus) macer by Fix (1975); it was recombined as Peruniscus macer by Wagner (2023).
