Taxonomy
Bellerophon rudis was named by Hall (1860). It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Patellostium rudis by Ulrich and Scofield (1897); it was recombined as Ptomatis rudis by Rollins et al. (1971) and Wagner (2023).
